Inside Urban Company’s ₹25 Billion Fundraising Plan
A year after its last funding round, Urban Company is seeking fresh capital. The company plans to raise ₹25 billion to boost profitability, expand into new business lines, and fuel an expensive battle for dominance in the home services sector. Will this new infusion of capital strengthen Urban Company’s competitive position?

Bolstering Cash Reserves: Urban Company’s board has approved a proposal to raise up to ₹25 billion through equity or convertible securities. While the exact financing instrument has yet to be finalized, management believes the proceeds will be sufficient to cover short-term operational expenses without straining internal cash flows.

A ₹25 Billion Buffer: Although the company maintains that it can reach EBITDA break-even by fiscal year 2028 without additional capital, this round will provide greater flexibility on its balance sheet. This capital buffer will also allow Urban Company to fund new product development, potential acquisitions, and international expansion—all without compromising its core profit margins.

The Drag from InstaHelp: Timing is critical. In the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, the company’s net loss more than tripled year-on-year, reaching ₹182.5 million. This was primarily driven by losses in its “InstaHelp” rapid-service vertical and ongoing investments in that segment. To make matters worse, intensifying competition from rivals like Snabbit and Pronto has forced Urban Company to invest heavily in user acquisition, the retention of gig workers, and market expansion.

Expanding the “Native” Brand: Meanwhile, Urban Company is entering the home air-conditioning market under its “Native” brand. This new venture will rely exclusively on the Urban Company app for distribution, with an initial focus on gathering product feedback and allocating capital with precision. While demand for home services does not automatically translate into appliance sales, the company intends to leverage the data it has accumulated over the years regarding consumer pain points and product gaps to penetrate the market.

With InstaHelp well-funded and Native expanding into new territory, can Urban Company leverage its ₹25 billion cash reserve to successfully penetrate and dominate the Indian home services market? Only time will tell…

How EdgeVerse Helps Two-Wheeler Riders Detect Hazards
India is home to one of the world’s largest two-wheeler markets. Yet, collision-prevention systems have largely been confined to the automotive sector. EdgeVerse, a startup, is building AI-powered systems to bring advanced riding assistance features to two-wheelers.

Advanced Riding Assistance Systems (ARAS): Founded in 2023, EdgeVerse is developing “Perceiva,” an Advanced Riding Assistance System (ARAS) designed for two-wheelers. Much like ADAS in cars, this system integrates data from cameras, radar, and GPS to provide real-time situational awareness and safety for riders.

EdgeVerse’s Tech Stack: The startup’s hardware platform is designed to process perception workloads at the “edge,” reducing reliance on cloud connectivity. The company also states that its technology is compatible with existing camera and radar architectures, allowing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to incorporate intelligent safety features without significantly increasing vehicle costs or hardware complexity.

Future Outlook: Having completed road testing, EdgeVerse plans to enter the market by the end of 2026 through partnerships with OEMs. The company is also exploring opportunities in industrial automation and other edge-AI applications. Looking ahead, the startup aims to accelerate the development and commercialization of its perception technology.

With the Indian ADAS market projected to reach $3.1 billion by 2031, could EdgeVerse make rider safety a standard feature for two-wheelers in India?
